The holidays are over for me, its straight back to work. Everything has been so hectic up until Christmas. I've barely even had time to think. I really appreicate the nights where I can work on my blog, relax, and have a glass of wine. I hate when this day rolls over every year, the day after Christmas. I would actually love it if Christmas was all year round, lol. At least, we have New Years Eve and winter to look forward to! I actually had to google when winter started because it has been extremely warm in Texas, high 70's and 80's. It's kind of nice because I don't have to throw on tons of  layers before walking outside and I can wear lightweight winter coats when the temperatures drop.

I've had this coat for a few weeks now and it's so pretty. I often gravitate towards classic carmel and black trench coat, so it was time to change it up. I find a lot of my trendier coats on Shein. I bought this one last year and love the cognac and black color mix. A lot of their coats are well under $100! This pretty checked one that I'm wearing today is under $40 (I'm wearing an XS)! I linked several of my favorites below.

There is a strong love/hate relationship with shopping for Christmas gifts at the very last minute. Pros: all the stores have amazing sales! Cons: limited selection and overcrowding. Since Tommy and I were flying to Texas for Christmas, we weren't able to buy gifts in Colorado. We already had so much to pack and wouldn't have had any room in our luggage. I always buy gifts during the last few days before Christmas every year so it wasn't a problem. I actually prefer it at this point.

Yesterday was my only free day, so I went shopping and grabbed lunch at the River Oaks Shopping Center. (Malls are just a nightmare during this time! Parking takes forever, lines are super long, and there are so many people, it's crazy). It was a nice change to be able to shop outside; Colorado is so cold that you'd freeze to death walking from store to store. Gap is one of my favorite places to shop because they have clothes for everyone in my family and are always having sales. They currently have 50% off the entire store! I stocked up on gifts for all the children and grabbed some goodies for Liam as well. Barnes and Noble is the "IT" place for Tommy's family. They could probably build a library with the amount of books that they own. Here is a tip for shopping at Barnes and Nobel- find out the favorite author(s) of the person you're buying a gift for, find the section of books in the store, and grab the most recent book. That's how I shop for Tommy and it has worked EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. My family on the other hand LOVES Starbucks and Apple, they'd rather grab a coffee and work online than open a book, lol. I was able to grab a couple of gift cards while I was there. Gift cards in my opinion are great gifts, they give your family and friends the freedom of what to buy and you yourself don't have to worry about gift receipts or wrapping huge boxes. Before I left, I had to stop by Macaroons by Patisse. Their macaroons are to die for! I'd fly to Houston just to get them, lol. Try the Blueberry Vanilla Bean next time you visit, it's so good!

I actually finished 90% of my Christmas list in one day! I felt so relieved, especially being a whole day behind schedule due to my cancelled flight. Don't you just love that adrenaline and pressure during the holidays that gets you going?!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

TOP: BP (similar here and here) // SCARF: ASOS (exact one here) // BOTTOMS: AG // SHOES: UGG // BAG: Gucci // SUNGLASSES: Karen Walker

Okay, I'm so not ready for Christmas to be here. My to-do list is never ending. To top it all off, our flight was delayed yesterday in Denver and now I'm a day behind my schedule. The airport was insane, there were tons of flights cancelled and if we would have waited to rebook with the same airline, we wouldn't have flown out to Houston until the 23rd. Luckily, Tommy found a pair of military tickets for us to fly back to Houston that same day. We were at the airport for over 6 hours! We have access to the USO, so it definitely made things a lot easier. We had a place to relax, eat, and catch up on anything we had to do online.

Anyways! (Sorry, I had to vent, lol). This outfit is one of my favorite Christmas outfits and definitely super easy to recreate. I love mixing stripes and plaid, it turns two basics into a chic and festive twist. I've even seen people add a leopard pair of booties or clutch and it looks so chic all together.  This scarf is from last year and if you can get your hands on it, get it! It's my favorite Christmas patterned scarf! ASOS no longer sells it, but I found a boutique online that had the exact one for about $12. They've restocked it several times so I'd keep my eye on it. It reminds me of this scarf that has been popular for the past 3ish years that everyone owns. Mixing patterns and colors that I typically wouldn't think about pairing strangely turn out to be my favorites. Do yall have any pattern combos that yall just love? I'll have to try them out.

DRESS: Express (love this one!)// SHOES: UGG // SCARF: Lands Downunder // SUNGLASSES: Karen Walker // BAG: Gucci

Today, I'm sharing 3 ways to style your dresses for the winter. Regardless of how hot or cold the weather is, I will never give up wearing dresses. I still favor them during the winter because I don't have to go through the hassel of carrying my coat or striping off layers every time I walk into a building or home.

My first styling tip is specially for sweater dresses..I gravitate towards sweater dresses because they are knitted and soft. I love wearing them with a pair of knee or thigh high boots to keep my legs warm and a scarf (like today's outfit). Hunter boots would also look really cute with this outfit! For a pleated or more formal dress (like this one), a pair of thick black tights and black pumps would look really pretty and classic for the holidays. Here is a look from my first winter blog post last year that I styled using these tips. My last styling tip for wearing dresses during extreme cold weathers (any type of dress would work) would be to layer and layer. Adding a warm parka jacket, blanket scarf, beanie, and a pair of boots (add tights if you're wearing booties), will definitely keep you warm and trendy during the winter.

I can't believe Christmas is in 10 days! I went to Target yesterday and I almost froze to death walking to the store. Tommy and I have been Christmas shopping so much this month. We went a little crazy on Liam's presents this year. I'm pretty sure he has over 20 gifts...meanwhile we have none, lol. We're celebrating Christmas this Saturday with just our little family before we fly out. I can't wait for him to rip open all of his presents. He paces really fast when he's overwhelmed with excitement and it's the sweetest thing! My family means everything to me, I love them so much! I'll be posting videos on my snapchat that morning @anniemescall.

Thank you so much for reading!

TOP: Gap (old, similar here) // JEANS: Articles of Society // SHOES: Sperry (love this color!) // BLANKET: Lands Downunder // LIAM- JACKET: Patagonia // BOTTOMS: Zara // SHOES: Ga // BEANIE: Zara

I've grown up near Houston my entire life and love the city, but living up in the mountains definitely has its perks. I went to Garden of the Gods with my friend Lena last week and this place this breathtaking. If you're ever in Colorado Springs, it's a great place to visit and it's children friendly. There are easy paths to walk and beautiful scenery all around.

It was chilly when we went but I didn't mind it too much. I practically had this soft blanket wrapped around me the entire time. This is my second throw from Lands Downunder, I wanted a thicker throw for the winter and it has really done its job. I bring it EVERYWHERE, Colorado can go from 50 degrees to 17 degrees in a matter of minutes. We spent 2 hours in the mountains and Liam was running around the entire time! He was stepping in all of the leftover snow, climbing up the steps, and just being a boy. He refused to walk on the sidewalks, he walked on the dirt right next to us kicking whatever he could find. When dogs would pass by, he pointed and said "dog" repeatedly, several owners were even kind enough to let Liam pet them. When we stopped to take a break, I would wrap him up and warm up his hands. I'll never get tired of his cozy snuggles. This is why I favor fall and winter, getting cold means I can snuggle up with family next to the fireplace, drinking hot chocolate.
